Debra A. Thomas is an attorney and owner of the Law Offices of Debra A. Thomas, a Professional Corporation in Towson, Maryland. She handles cases in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Howard County, Harford County and Anne Arundel County. Ms. Thomas practices in the areas of personal injury, family law, workers compensation, traffic, DUI/DWI, probate and wills. She is also a Hearing Examiner for the Baltimore City Employees’ and the Fire and Police Department Retirement Systems. She routinely hears testimony regarding disability claims filed by Baltimore City employees and Baltimore City police and firefighters. She decides eligibility for disability and renders opinions.
Ms. Thomas is a lifelong resident of Baltimore City and attended Western High School and later Goucher College. She attended the University of Baltimore School of Law and was a trial lawyer for Allstate Insurance Company for ten years before opening her practice in 2004. She has served as Chair of the Family Law Committee of the Baltimore City Bar Association and is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar Association, the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys, and the Maryland Association for Justice. In 2015 and 2019, Ms. Thomas was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to the Judicial Nominating Commission of Baltimore County and continues to sit on this commission. This commission nominates qualified attorneys to the Governor for consideration for the judiciary. Additionally, Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed Debra A. Thomas to the Maryland Legal Services Corporation’s nine-member Board of Directors. She was the Chair of the Baltimore County Bar Association, Bench Bar Committee from 2021-2022. She is also a member of the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys and a former President of the Baltimore Chapter of Jack and Jill, Inc. She is currently a member of the advisory council for NOTA of the M&T Bank.
Ms. Thomas is married with two sons. She works with her husband, Anthony Thomas, who is an attorney in the firm.
